diagnosed with celiac disease
just before her 7th birthday.
What symptoms was your child having before being diagnosed?
she had diarrhea a lot as an infant (Doctors said Rotavirus) as well as belly pain. She would grimace and not complain because it always seemed to bother her.
Any other family members diagnosed with celiac disease?
None right now. We have all tested negative for antibodies but none have had genetic testing.
How has your child’s life changed since being diagnosed?
Other than new diet and better health not much has changed. She is going on 12 and does what any little girl does and just remembers her food motto "when in doubt, do without."
What advice would you offer a parent who’s child was just diagnosed with celiac disease?
EDUCATE YOURSELF. ADVOCATE FOR YOUR CHILD! Don't let your children be left out or feel like an outsider because of CD. My daughter attends birthday parties and banquets at all types of venues, I call a day or two ahead and make arrangements for her to get GF food.
Look at you Clare, you look happy and healthy! I love seeing that! Jack has an older sister named Georgia and she's going on 12 years old too. It's fun age, and I know there's a lot of school activities and social events to attend - just keep being positive and embracing your gluten-free lifestyle!
And great advice Mom!
The parents of this little angel and Clare herself deserve a standing ovation for being so strong and fighting against this horrible disease. May she get well soon completely. Aameen.
